Minneapolis Fire Foundation’s own Mark Lakosky was featured as Minnesota Wild’s  Community Hero!  

Mark is a 23-year veteran of the Minneapolis Fire Department and currently serves as the rank of Fire Motor Operator.  He is the current President of Minneapolis Firefighter union Local 82. Prior to becoming a firefighter, Mark served as a corrections officer in the states of California and Minnesota.  He also is a military veteran, serving as a police officer in the United States Army.  He was raised in Saint Paul and is the oldest of 9 adopted children.  Mark is married with twin sons, one who currently is on the Saint Paul Fire Department.

Minneapolis Fire Foundation received 25 cancer fighting particulate hoods for the MFD Fire Academy that started September 16th.  These hoods are 99% effective at blocking carcinogenic materials from being absorbed through the skin.  The hoods were donated by the Minnesota Fire Fighters Foundation (501c3) at their annual golf tournament September 9th.

MFF was part of a group of fire departments and organizations receiving hoods, with 600 hoods in total being donated!!

Despite spending years advocating for cancer mitigation practices on the job, Minneapolis Deputy Fire Chief, Rita Juran, wasn’t prepared for it to hit home.
